The Jubilee Sailing Trust operates two ships to enable people of all physical abilities to sail. Operating out of Melbourne to ports around Australia, the Tenacious will be operating day sails and voyages from September to April 2017.

Much work has already been accomplished, and we are $1.7m away from completing the restoration. Of this, $800k is needed to finish the hull and have her back in the water for the final fit out.

A wicked combination of fundraising, donations and sponsorship is achieving our goal. So thank you for being a part of the “fundraising component”. We raised $3,000 on the day, and that is a great effort.

A big thank you to Ivan Mitchell who made the Alexander Stewart available for our fundraising. Ivan and his team run regular cruises around the bay every Sunday during the summer months, and you can arrange a sleep over on board dockside, if you want something a bit different. Plans for the coming months:

Alma Doepel Open Day as part of the National Trust Heritage Festival. Sunday May 1 from 10am to 4pm. A behind the scenes look at the restoration and have a look at the Alma Doepel Art Exhibition that is running at the same time. Sales of paintings will generate commissions for the Alma Doepel restoration.

The Art exhibition will include various artists from around Australia with works in various media all relating to Alma Doepel. Artists include: Katherine Maher, Elizabeth Martyn, Peter Sharp, Don Braben, Jo Taylor, Tiffany Dryburgh, Cliff Adeney, Manwel Cassar, Annee Kelly, Roger Knowles, Ted Dansey, Mary Sowa and Maggie Cowling.

Alma Doepel Gala Lunch at Central Pier Wednesday 24 August 12-2pm. This is our major fund raiser of the year targeted at selling corporate tables. If you know anyone in business who might be interested in entertaining their clients – guest speaker is Simon McKeon and MC is Channel 9’s Peter Hitchener, then have them contact me.
